Viticcio between the Coastal Path and Mediterranean Maquis

Viticcio combines small beaches, maritime views and a coastal landscape shaped by Mediterranean maquis. The Gulf of Viticcio is enclosed by the Enfola Peninsula. The Gulf of Viticcio is a more sheltered, unspoilt coastal area surrounded by Mediterranean maquis. From Viticcio, you can look out over Cape Enfola, Monte Capanne and the Gulf of Viticcio. The Enfola route offers views of the Golfo del Viticcio. On particularly clear days, the island of Capraia and Corsica can also be seen in the distance. This creates a destination whose character is revealed above all through its coast, sea and far-reaching views.

Coastal Paths and Small Beaches

Path 249 on the Percorso del Viticcio runs parallel to the coast and makes the landscape accessible along a clear route. Below the houses on the Percorso del Viticcio lies the tiny Spiaggia di Ghiaia of the same name. The Viticcio beach area also includes five small free-access beaches immediately near the small village of Viticcio. In Viticcio, three paths lead down to the sea. If you would like to choose between walks, short routes to the water and different beach spots during your stay, this layout offers several concrete starting points.

Water Experiences at Enfola and Viticcio

Spiaggia delle Alghe can be reached via a path that begins to the right of Ristorante Da Giacomino. The pebbly seabeds of the beaches at Enfola and Viticcio are suitable for snorkelling and scuba diving. The continuous coastal area of Enfola and Viticcio can be explored by kayak, pedal boat and boat. A boat excursion in the Gulf of Viticcio can be booked by reservation for a maximum of eight people aboard the Luna III. The range of experiences therefore extends from observing the shoreline to excursions on the water.

Secca del Viticcio Diving Site

A special point of reference for experienced underwater enthusiasts is the Secca del Viticcio diving site. It lies in the Gulf of Enfola; its summit is at a depth of 28 metres. Because of the depth, the dive at Secca del Viticcio is recommended for advanced divers. Octopuses and moray eels live in the crevices of Secca del Viticcio.

History and Getting There

Viticcio was once inhabited by fishermen and farmers. This former character is part of the area's history, without equating it with continued use of its present-day coastal landscape. To get there, bus route 7 connects Portoferraio with Viticcio via Le Ghiaie, Padullela, Capobianco and Sottobomba, continues to Bivio Ablereto and then returns to Portoferraio. It operates as a summer route from 11 June to 14 September. For your planning, this means taking into account both the coastal location and a specific seasonal connection along this route.
