Carmignano amid hills and culture

The festivals also give Carmignano a clearly recognisable local profile. The Palio dei Ciuchi takes place on a circuit that runs around the centre of Carmignano. The Festa di San Michele includes folkloric processions by the four Rioni: Arcangelo in light blue, Arte in green, Leone in yellow and Torre in white. The different colours and names give the festivities a clearly structured local form.
Figs, grape varieties and local products
The local food culture includes dried figs from Carmignano. They have their own production specification and have been a Slow Food Presidium since 1 December 2001. Only Dottato figs are used for this product; the harvest takes place between the end of August and mid-September.
