Tignale: Lemon Gardens, Mountain Trails and Lake Garda Views
Tignale combines historic cultural sites, paths through changing landscapes and experiences on Lake Garda. Here, you can set your own priorities: between lemon cultivation and sacred art, hiking and mountain biking trails, water sports at Porto di Tignale, and a children’s activity with alpacas.
Lemon Cultivation and Sacred Art
The Limonaia Pra dela Fam has been restored, turned into a museum and put back into production. In the process, traditional citrus-growing methods have been preserved. The limonaia can be visited; during a visit, you will learn about its history and the cultivation methods that continue to be used there. The Sentiero dei Limoni leads from the hill to Lake Garda and offers views of the historic Pra dela Fam lemon garden.
Another cultural highlight is the Santuario di Montecastello. It preserves the “Casa Santa,” a small temple believed to date from around 800 AD. The Santuario also contains frescoes from the Giotto school as well as Europe’s largest ex-voto, dating from the early 17th century. The site therefore brings together very different testimonies to religious and artistic history.
Hiking and Cycling Between the Lake and Higher Elevations
The hinterland of Tignale offers hiking and mountain biking trails extending across more than six districts and providing views of the lake. The routes lead from olive-covered terraces through rocky areas and Mediterranean maquis to woodland areas. Among other trees, pines, ash, chestnuts, hornbeams and beeches grow there. The trails reach elevations of up to 1,600 metres and offer views of Lake Garda along the way.
Individual destinations also help with orientation in the terrain. The Sentiero dei Limoni connects the hill with Lake Garda while also directing attention to the lemon gardens. On Cima Piemp, there is a small mountain hut and a small chapel. The Tignale Alpini group built both between 1983 and 1986; the inauguration took place on 10 August 1986. Today, the mountain hut is managed directly by the Tignale Alpini group and has a small bar.
Water Sports and Family Experiences
At the beach of Porto di Tignale, there is a boat rental service as well as a water sports school that rents the relevant equipment. Guided group excursions by SUP or kayak are also offered along the characteristic coastline. When planning your days in Tignale, you can combine these activities with cultural or hiking-focused activities without overlooking the different interests within a single trip.
For families, Tignale offers a children’s activity with alpacas. It includes an introduction to the animals and a walk. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether the cultural sites, the trails through the higher elevations, water sports at Porto di Tignale or this family experience should be the focus of your trip.
