Arcugnano between Landscape and Architectural Heritage

Lago di Fimon is one of the oldest lakes in Italy and one of the few that were not drained. The area around Lago di Fimon is home to typical wetland flora: alders, willows, poplars, cattails, reeds, water lilies and the rare water chestnut. Those who would like to include nature observation in their trip will find a clearly distinctive landscape here.

Cyclists can also include the lake in their plans. Lago di Fimon can be reached via a cycle path that begins opposite the Arco delle Scalette in the centre of Vicenza. The cycle path thus provides clear orientation between the centre of Vicenza and the lake.

For walks and hikes, the municipality of Arcugnano offers numbered orientation: there are five existing trails in the Colli Berici area, numbered 11 to 15. The numbering from 11 to 15 makes the available routes easy to survey when planning your day.

Arcugnano's historical heritage includes several very different examples of architecture. The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve e di San Rocco mainly displays 16th-century forms; its sacellum is already documented as dating from the late 13th century. The Torre Pentagonale is a 10th-century tower with an irregular ground plan.

The Villa Franceschini Canera di Salasco in Arcugnano dates from 1770 and is attributed to the architect Scamozzi. Villa Montanari, dating approximately from the period between 1806 and 1857, is an example of 19th-century Neoclassicism with influences from Neo-Palladian architecture. The Oratorio di San Pietro near Contrada Zanchi is a 1706 oratory in a Baroque style influenced by Classicism; the square interior is decorated with numerous statues made of Vicenza or Berici stone. A small church probably dates from the 14th century and contains a fresco cycle by Battista da Vicenza, executed around 1420.
