Arnara: Castle, Churches and Traditional Festivals

Arnara combines a panoramic location above the Sacco Valley with a medieval village whose development centred around a 9th-century castle. The castle was built on the remains of a Lombard tower; towers and fortified entrances from its original complex have been preserved. At this festival, around one hundred women from Arnara make the pasta by hand and distribute it to those present. The traditional Ciambelle di San Sebastiano provide another link between food and local customs: they are blessed before the morning procession and distributed to participants.
