Correzzana: Sacred Architecture, Palaces and Wooded Surroundings

Correzzana combines sacred architectural heritage, agricultural traces and a wooded regional setting. Villa Ravizza and Palazzo Vittorio Veneto are located in the area around Correzzana; both are palaces. La Testimone Velata Di Mariani Isarella, a museum, is also located in the area around Correzzana.

Sacred Architecture with Clear Forms

The present-day Chiesa di San Desiderio replaced an older oratory that had fallen into disrepair. Its construction began on 23 April 1873 and was completed in 1874. The rectangular nave is designed in the Lombard Gothic style. The Chiesa also contains a Lourdes grotto made of Ceppo stone from Val Camonica. For those interested in culture, the Chiesa therefore offers both the exterior form of the nave and a material detail inside.

The Oratorio di S. Maria del Rosario creates a different architectural accent with its plain façade. Side pilasters, a square window and a strictly triangular pediment define the view; the portal surround is designed in a more Baroque style. The plain façade of the Oratorio and the rectangular nave of the Chiesa di San Desiderio therefore differ in façade structure and style. In the portal area of the Oratorio, the more Baroque-designed surround also stands out within the plain façade.

Agriculture and Woodland in Brianza

The rural history includes two distinct time references. Cascina Regondella was historically used for agricultural production. Cascina Guzzafame continues to be used for agricultural production. Historical use and ongoing production therefore represent two separate time references for the two Cascine. Both farms thus belong to the agricultural history, but represent different periods.

In the regional surroundings of Correzzana, the Rio Pegorino SAC area is mostly wooded. It is one of the few remaining woodlands in the agriculturally shaped and urbanized Brianza. Rio Pegorino is therefore a woodland area within a Brianza that is both agriculturally shaped and urbanized.

Palaces, Museum and Festival Culture

La Testimone Velata Di Mariani Isarella, a museum, is also located in the area. Together with the two palaces and the museum, three different cultural sites are found in the surroundings of Correzzana. The secular cultural sites are therefore located in the surrounding area, while the Chiesa and Oratorio shape the town's sacred architecture.

The Festa al Centro Sportivo takes place every year during the first days of September. The event therefore establishes a recurring annual focus within a clearly defined September period. The Z317 bus route is also relevant for orientation between Vimercate and Correzzana: it connects the two places. The festival date is part of Correzzana's annual cycle, while the bus route provides the regional connection with Vimercate.
