Montecosaro: Churches, Panoramas and Film Art in the Historic Center

Montecosaro combines a medieval town center with churches, religious history, panoramic views and film art. The medieval historic center is enclosed by well-preserved walls. Churches and a Long History

The Collegiata di San Lorenzo houses a crucifix dating from the period before Giotto. The church therefore contains a clearly defined example of early art among Montecosaro’s religious attractions.

The Chiesa di San Rocco was built in 1447 as a vow by the inhabitants of Montecosaro affected by the plague. The Chiesa di Sant’Agostino was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in its present form in 1772. It houses a Callido organ dating from 1792.

At the Chiesa del SS. Crocefisso dei Sassi, a place of worship at this site is documented as early as around the year 1000. For centuries, the church was a destination for pilgrimages. The Chiesa dell’Annunziata has a thousand-year history as a place of prayer and devotion. Together, these churches give Montecosaro a distinctly spiritual dimension that stands out independently alongside its architectural history.

Panoramas and Special Cultural Venues

The Belvedere del Cassero offers views from the Adriatic Sea to the Monti Sibillini. An installation at the Belvedere del Cassero also includes an illuminated panorama of the Monti Sibillini.

Another cultural facet is represented by the Museo Cinema a Pennello. It is devoted exclusively to film-related advertising graphics and displays original designs used in the production of film posters.
