Sorradile on Lake Omodeo
Sorradile overlooks Lake Omodeo and is also characterized by a distinctive hilly landscape: almond groves, olive groves, vineyards and centuries-old oaks surround the town. This gives you a destination where a stay by the lake can be combined with cultural and historical impressions and excursions to archaeological sites. Landscape, sacred architecture and evidence of earlier cultures provide different focal points for planning your personal trip.
Church and multilayered architecture
Sorradile is home to the parish church of Chiesa di San Sebastiano. It was built between 1636 and 1642 by local craftsmen under the direction of Antoni Pina. Its design combines Romanesque, Catalan Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. This combination makes the church particularly interesting for visitors who are interested in the overlapping of different architectural and cultural periods.
Lake, necropolis and Nuragic culture
You can reach Lake Omodeo on foot or by car via a paved road. An important archaeological point of reference is the Prunittu necropolis. It is located in the immediate vicinity of a paved municipal road connecting the town of Sorradile with the rural sanctuary of Saint Nicholas. According to the current state of research, the necropolis comprises 15 Domus de Janas and dates from the Late Neolithic to the Eneolithic.
The Nuragic cult complex of Su Monte is located on the left bank of the middle Tirso, near Lake Omodeo. The temple has a circular chamber with a stone basin altar into which a model of a single-towered nuraghe has been incorporated. The Su Monte archaeological exhibition displays a reproduction of the altar basin made of trachyte, an extensive selection of ceramic and lithic finds, and an exceptional series of votive bronzes. In Sorradile, the range therefore extends from sacred architecture to archaeological objects and find contexts.
Other destinations in the surrounding area
The surroundings of Sorradile include the ancient site of Nuraghe Talei, Monte Mandra Puzzone, Monte Mudregu and the historic site of Nuraghe Losa. Further afield in the region are the ancient site of Terme di Fordongianus, the Museo del Pane Rituale museum and Monte Perda Orrubia. The island of Sardinia is also located near Sorradile.
