Petersberg: Golf, Alpine Pastures and Culture on the Reggelberg

Monte San Pietro/Petersberg lies at around 1,380 metres above sea level on the sunny high plateau of the Reggelberg. At this altitude, mountain landscapes, trails, alpine pastures, culture and golf appeal to a range of interests. If you would like to plan varied days, Petersberg offers several clearly distinct reasons to visit.

Golf in an Alpine Landscape

The Petersberg Golf Club course lies at around 1,250 metres above sea level. Small groves with old trees and picturesque ponds blend into the surrounding mountain landscape. The 18-hole course features challenging changes in elevation and tricky, narrow fairways. Golf is therefore one of the distinctive experiences associated with the landscape of Petersberg.

Church and Place of Pilgrimage

The parish church dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Margareth preserves a Romanesque tower with two rows of three-part round-arched windows, as well as part of the nave walls. The pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein is also located near Petersberg. It was established following a reported apparition of the Virgin Mary experienced by the hermit Leonhard Weissensteiner in 1553; his small chapel was subsequently enlarged into a pilgrimage site.

Easy Trails for Families

The family hike to the farms of Petersberg/Monte San Pietro begins in the village centre of Petersberg. It follows trails 6A and 1 through meadows and past the Häusler Hof, Tschengg Hof and Oberrain farms before returning to the village centre. The easy hike is 4.1 kilometres long and has an activity time of 1 hour and 5 minutes. The starting point is served by the Monte S. Pietro, Hotel Peter bus stop.

Alpine Pasture Trails with Panoramic Views and Refreshments

The hike to the Bel Riposo, Schmieder and Lahner alpine pastures begins in Monte San Pietro and leads through meadows and light forests to the Schönrast, Schmieder and Lahner alpine pastures. On this route, the E5 European long-distance path crosses alpine meadows to Schönrast Alm, from where you can see Latemar and Catinaccio. The Gorzsteig trail then descends to Lahner Alm, where you can stop for a meal featuring typical local dishes.

Petersberger Leger Alm

Petersberger Leger Alm lies at 1,530 metres between the pilgrimage site of Maria Weissenstein, the Bletterbach Gorge and the Weißhorn. It can be reached from the Maria Weissenstein car park in 35 to 40 minutes, including with a pushchair. The alpine pasture serves typical South Tyrolean dishes as well as homemade cakes and desserts.

Another Family Hike

On the family hike from Pietralba to Malga Monte San Pietro, forest road no. 2 leads from the Maria Weissenstein car park to Petersberger Leger Alm. The easy, family-friendly trail follows the same route back. This means that, in addition to the longer farm hike, there is also a clearly described route with the same outward and return path.
