Caldaro between Lake and Wine Trails
Caldaro on the Wine Road reveals its character in the townscape itself: the Überetsch style shapes it and is reminiscent of Tuscan architecture. For you, this creates a clear architectural accent before the lake, wine trails and landscapes shape the rest of the day's plans. Depending on your interests, you can therefore focus your stay more on nature, the townscape, winegrowing or cultural destinations.
Water and Nature at Lake Caldaro
Lake Caldaro is the largest natural body of water in South Tyrol. The lakeside circular trail enables an extended walk around the lake and reveals various facets of the body of water. Anyone who wants to consciously include nature in their daily itinerary will find the nature experience trail, a route around 7.5 km long through the biotope and around Lake Caldaro. The trail includes 14 information boards. The area surrounding the nature experience trail at Lake Caldaro is associated with white storks, cormorants, herons and native birds.
Connections to the Lake
The Bolzano–Lake Caldaro cycle path leads from Bolzano to the shore of Lake Caldaro. Bus route 130 takes you from Caldaro to the centre of Lake Caldaro in around five minutes. This gives you different options for including the lake in your stay: one connection starts in Bolzano, while the other begins in Caldaro and takes you by bus to the lake centre.
The Caldaro Wine Trail
The Caldaro Wine Trail follows a figure-eight loop; its crossing point is in the village centre. From there, it leads along an existing circular hiking trail to Lake Caldaro or in the other direction to Oberplanitzing. Along the way, it passes vineyards and wine estates. In this way, the trail connects the village centre with the lake and the wine-growing landscape in a clear route structure – interesting for you if walks and local winegrowing are to go hand in hand.
Culture in the Surrounding Area
Castello Boymont is a castle in the surrounding area of Caldaro on the Wine Road. Castel Firmiano, Museion and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology are museums in the same area. For your cultural orientation, you can therefore distinguish between one castle and several museums without having to limit your stay to a single attraction.
Mountains and Peaks in the Surrounding Area
Monte Penegal is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Caldaro on the Wine Road, while Monte Toval is a peak nearby. Col di Sotto is a peak in the surrounding area, and Monte Roen is a mountain in the area around Caldaro on the Wine Road. These landscape features complement the themes of the lake and wine trails if you do not want to plan your days exclusively around the water or the town centre.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Interests
When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide on your preferred focus: the nature experience trail and lake, the Caldaro Wine Trail with its village centre, vineyards and wine estates, or museums and a castle in the surrounding area. This allows you to align the location of your accommodation with your personal interests without presupposing a particular type of travel.
