High-Alpine Trails and Lake Landscape

Pfelders combines high-alpine trails with distinctive natural and landscape experiences. The high-alpine variant of the Merano High Mountain Trail begins in the car-free mountain village of Pfelders and leads through the Faltschnaltal valley to Spronser Joch, the mountain lake plateau of the Sprons Lakes and Oberkaser Alm. The ten Sprons Lakes form South Tyrol’s highest lake plateau; they were created by the movement of a glacier. At the same time, Pfelders is a starting point for hikes throughout Texel Group Nature Park.

Hiking Destinations with Different Trail Routes

Several trail routes are available for specific hiking destinations. The hike to Schneidalm leads from Pfelders via Trail 6A; the return journey follows the same trail or Trails 44B and 8. From Pfelders, Trail 6A leads via Zwickauerhütte to Seelenkogel at an elevation of 3,489 metres. A forest road runs along the Merano High Mountain Trail to Lazins Alm at the foot of Hohe Wilde. The trail to Erensee follows Route 24 to Lazins, Forest Trail 6 to Faltschnalalm and then Trail 7 at an elevation of 2,291 metres.

Experiences at Grünboden Mountain Station

At Grünboden Mountain Station, the Stone Labyrinth is a short circular trail made entirely of natural materials. It includes a pond, a fountain with spring water and several viewpoints. The information boards in the Stone Labyrinth document avalanches from the 19th and 20th centuries. Spider Park has four courses and four zip lines, which run up to 40 metres above the Pfelderer Bach.

Winter Offers and Mountain Activities

In winter, the Pfelders ski area has 18 kilometres of pistes: 5 kilometres of easy, 12 kilometres of intermediate and 1 kilometre of difficult pistes. The Pfelders family toboggan run is 450 metres long, a natural ice rink is located directly at the Pfelders ski lift, and the Innerhütt cross-country ski trail measures 4.9 kilometres. A natural toboggan run leads from Grünbodenhütte to the village of Pfelders. In addition, the mountain-cart track from the mountain station to the valley station is 3.5 kilometres long. In summer, the Grünbodenexpress travels from an elevation of 1,601 metres to 2,001 metres in 3.18 minutes.

Plan between Mountain Landscape and History

Plan also combines landscape and history. Plan lies in the Plan valley in the Passeier Valley at the foot of Cima delle Anime and Cima Altissima; both peaks are higher than 3,400 metres. The Church of Chiesa di Maria Ausiliatrice stands in the centre of Plan. After the area was settled in the 13th century, Plan, together with Zeppichl, Lazins and Stein, was among the first four mountain farms built in this area. The old dead route from Pfelders to Dorf Tirol is regarded as evidence of the early presence of humans in the Texel Group.
