Lamon offers various ways to experience a journey through history, landscapes and regional cuisine: from the parish church of San Pietro and archaeological evidence to trails, Lake La Senaiga and local specialties.

Culture among churches, archaeology and stone

The parish church of San Pietro preserves frescoes from 1560 to 1570, attributed to Marco Da Mel. Il Ponte Romano also draws attention to the history of construction: the bridge was recently restored and consists of a single span made of local stone, supported by a round arch.

The Museo Civico Archeologico e la necropoli di San Donato is located near Lamon’s square. It preserves finds from the archaeological excavations that took place from 2000 to 2009 in Piasentot near San Donato. The San Donato necropolis comprises around 70 graves; it was used from the middle of the 1st century AD until the 4th century AD. In summer, the museum has fixed opening hours; outside the summer season, visits are possible by prior reservation.

Trails with varying levels of difficulty

For a shorter hike, consider the section of the Via Claudia Augusta starting at Costa, which today bears the name Via Pagana. The four-kilometre path is walkable, gently ascending and cut into the rock. On the Arina, Chiappini, Toffoli trail, hikers reach the hamlet of Piloni from the church of Arina after 30 minutes, and the hamlet of Chiappini after another 15 minutes, beyond Col Sec.

The Anello Sala-Pezzè circular trail is 5.4 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 320 metres. It is considered suitable for children and can be walked with animals. The Lamon Gran Tour is a circular route with impressive views over the valley; in its final section, it follows part of the imperial Via Claudia Augusta.

Lake, panoramic views and nature observation

La Senaiga is a 62-metre-high double-arch dam, built between 1949 and 1951 in the Lamon area on the border with the Province of Trento. A suspended footbridge crosses the lake, offering impressive panoramic views. Numerous mallards and grey herons can be observed on the lake and in its immediate surroundings.

Monte Coppolo is considered a natural continuation of the Vette Feltrine and an area for biodiversity protection. The ascent is considered difficult but offers impressive panoramic views. This means that, alongside easier trail sections, more demanding experiences in the landscape are also available.

Flavour and local character

The Lamon sheep is a native population from the area of the same name in the Province of Belluno. Today, it is found mainly in the municipality of Lamon and in several other municipalities of Valbelluna. The meat of the “fea” is available in local restaurants and from food retailers in the surrounding area.

The Festa del fagiolo di Lamon takes place every year over the third weekend in September and lasts three days. It offers the opportunity to taste local specialties such as smoked mutton. The festival also includes an extensive programme dedicated to discovering and communicating the region’s cultural and traditional heritage. When choosing a hotel in Lamon, you can therefore give different weight to cultural visits, trails, nature observation or regional cuisine depending on your travel plans.
