Misurina: Lake Misurina and the Mountain Landscape

Misurina lies at an altitude of 1,756 metres in an area shaped by mountains and green forests. The small natural lake is a defining feature of the town: the surrounding peaks are reflected in its surface.

Lake and Mountain Panorama

At Lake Misurina, the Cadini, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Monte Cristallo and the Sorapis Massif are reflected in the water. A path runs along the lakeshore and allows visitors to walk around Lake Misurina. This makes it possible to experience the lakeshore and mountain panorama together directly, without limiting the landscape to individual viewpoints. The circuit remains along the lakeshore; the water and mountain panorama can be viewed from the same route.

Col de Varda and Trails into the Cadini

The two-seater Col de Varda chairlift connects Misurina at 1,756 metres with the Rifugio Col de Varda at 2,106 metres, taking around ten minutes. Between the lake at 1,756 metres and the refuge at 2,106 metres, the landscape changes from the lakeshore to mountain trails. From the Rifugio Col de Varda, there are views of Lake Misurina and the surrounding mountains, including Cristallo, the Sexten Dolomites, the Cadini, Sorapiss and the Tofane. The Rifugio Col de Varda is also a starting point for numerous hikes into the Cadini di Misurina, including to the Rifugio Fonda Savio and the Rifugio Città di Carpi. The Rifugio Col de Varda is therefore both the destination of the chairlift and the starting point for trails into the Cadini di Misurina.

Memorial Sites and History

Monte Piana is a memorial site commemorating the First World War and is home to an open-air historical museum dedicated to the First World War. In Misurina, the Chiesa della Madonna della Salute also commemorates the history of the town. The church was consecrated by Don Antonio Da Rin in August 1900; Queen Margherita of Savoy attended a Mass there in honour of her husband, who had been killed in July of the same year.

Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and a Summer Experience

The Misurina ski area includes an easy slope suitable for beginners taking their first steps in skiing. The Campo scuola Loita has two cross-country ski trails. A rowing-boat ride on Lake Misurina is considered a summer experience. The easy slope and the two trails represent winter sports in Misurina; the rowing-boat ride is a summer experience associated with Lake Misurina.

Connection to the Tre Cime

A shuttle service to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo runs from Misurina Genzianella directly to the Rifugio Auronzo.
