Water Landscape and Cycle Route

The embanked Vigenzone and Cagnola canals form an ecological corridor. This landscape gives Cartura a distinct natural character and also makes the surrounding area interesting for visitors who do not want to plan only cities and indoor attractions during their trip to Italy. The Ciclovia del Sale e dello Zucchero also passes through Cartura. Its connection with the town offers a specific thematic entry point for cycling enthusiasts, without implying any particular route planning.

A casone has been preserved in Gorgo di Cartura. This is a typical rural dwelling of the farmers of the Venetian plain.

Church and Venetian Architectural Heritage

One of the defining cultural landmarks is the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. It was first mentioned in 1130, at that time under the name Santa Maria della Valle. The church contains a ceiling fresco of the Assumption of the Virgin, painted by Giandomenico Tiepolo in 1793. The origins of the church building also date back a long way: in 1696, the parish priest at the time, Don Girolamo Dottor De-Grandis, decided to build a new church; its large nave was constructed in 1700.

Villa Buzzaccarini presents another aspect of the region's architecture. Its western section dates from the 16th century, while a long wing from the 18th century extends to the east. A substantial tower, which was fitted with battlements in the last century, connects the two areas. Villa Buzzaccarini in Cartura is considered a rare example of Venetian architecture. Villa Santinello, a three-storey building from the late 17th century, is also located in Cagnola.

The Villa Malipietro Gosetti detta Villa Alice palace is located in the immediate vicinity of Cartura. The Castello di San Pelagio castle, the Museo dell'Aria museum and the Castello del Catajo castle are also located nearby. For an excursion farther afield in the surrounding region, there are Monte Venda and the natural arch Arco Vallaresso. The Giardino di Villa Barbarigo a Valsanzibio garden is also located there. The Parchetto Mattei park is another attraction in the immediate vicinity of Cartura. The park complements the destinations in the surrounding area.

Local Event and Culinary Connection

The Sagra dell'Assunta took place in Cartura from August 7 to August 16, 2026, and included food stalls, among other things. The documented event connects the town's name with a festival and regionally influenced food, but remains clearly limited to this period.
