Discover Lastebasse: Nature, Trails and History

Lastebasse lies on the right slope of the upper Astico Valley and extends from 420 to 1,822 metres in elevation. Steep, rugged terrain and deeply incised, wooded valleys characterise the area. Landscape Between Valleys and Watercourses

The Val Lunga valley follows the border with the Trentino municipality of Folgaria, while the Val Lozza valley runs along the municipality of Valdastico. The Civetta stream rises in, or descends from, the Altopiano dei Fiorentini and flows into the Astico immediately below the Lastebasse municipal area. The waterfalls of Val Civetta are among the area’s notable natural attractions. They are among the few waterfalls in the Province of Vicenza and are considered particularly attractive to tourists.

Trails Offering Different Perspectives

Several notable trail connections begin in Lastebasse. CAI Trail 571 starts immediately behind the church. CAI Trail 569 begins at Pickel near Contra’ Giaconi di Lastebasse, next to the bridge over Val Civetta. From Lastebasse, an initial section provides quick access to the Altopiano dei Fiorentini and leads in that direction, skirting Soglio D’Aspio. From the Restele Chapel, the trail offers expansive views. From Forcella Molon, the summit and Fort Campomolon can be reached in 20 minutes.

Churches and Places of Remembrance

Lastebasse’s sights include the parish church of S. Marco evangelista, the Church of S. Prosdocimo vescovo in the hamlet of Posta, and the Church of S. Fermo e Rustico, built in 1833. The area’s history is also evident in several places: the Bassa Val delle Lanze–I Fiorentini area is designated as a Palaeolithic archaeological site. Forte Campomolon is considered a site of historical and commemorative interest; the Val delle Lanze–Fiorentini area is designated as a trench or trench-system site.

The Monumento a Carlo D’Asburgo commemorates the visit of Emperor Charles of Austria to his troops, as well as those who fell in 1915–1916. It stands on the Altopiano dei Fiorentini in the municipality of Lastebasse at an elevation of 1,450 metres. The Cippo a Carlo D’Asburgo in Busatti di Lastebasse, in the Province of Vicenza, is a First World War monument dedicated to Archduke Charles of Austria. It is located on Strada Regionale 350, about 10 metres from the bridge over the Astico.

Cycling and Winter Sports

There is also a specific connection for challenging cycling tours: the Dall’Altopiano alla Val d’Astico mountain-bike route passes through Lastebasse, is 100 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 480 metres. Facilities for alpine skiing are available on the Altopiano dei Fiorentini in Lastebasse. The winter sports offering includes 6.3 kilometres of prepared alpine-ski runs, located mainly in the municipality of Lastebasse and on the Altopiano dei Fiorentini, as well as 9 kilometres of cross-country ski trails.

The fourth edition of Lastebasse in Sport was announced for 22 June 2025 at the Centro Sportivo Le Giare.
