Roana between Cimbrian Culture and Historic Trails
Roana is a destination for travelers who want to combine Cimbrian culture, wartime history and trails through the landscape. During the First World War, the municipal area was divided for more than two years as a result of the Austro-Hungarian offensive known as the “Strafexpedition”: from June 25, 1916, until the end of the First World War, the front line ran through Roana from west to east along the Torrente Assa.
Cimbrian Culture and History
The Museo della Cultura Cimbra is located in Roana near Piazza Santa Giustina. It is dedicated to preserving the ancient history of the population groups of the Altopiano dei 7 Comuni.
The museum displays historical photographs of Roana, as well as former tools used in agriculture, cheese production and the processing of wool and hemp. Here, you can encounter tangible traces of everyday life and the local working world of the past.
Hoga Zait is the Cimbrian festival. Families are invited to experience Cimbrian legends in magical and unusual places throughout the area and discover new corners of the region. The Cucu Festival is an international street-arts festival and will return from August 27 to August 30, 2026, with its 16th edition and traveling performances in all the hamlets of the municipality of Roana.
Hiking Trails, Alpine Huts and Activities
Roana is one of the 24 municipalities participating in the Alta Via Grande Guerra project. More than 200 kilometers of additional hiking trails branch off from this Alta Via, leading to museums, memorials, fortresses and military cemeteries.
The Via delle Malghe connects 88 public alpine huts through numerous hiking and cycling routes. These pass through the forests and pastures of the municipalities of Asiago, Enego, Foza, Gallio, Lusiana Conco, Roana and Rotzo. The Roana route is 19 kilometers long and has a moderate to high level of difficulty. Acropark offers adventure courses with elevated platforms, lianas, Tibetan bridges and spectacular zip lines.
Places Around Roana
The Parco del Sojo Arte e Natura museum is located in the immediate vicinity of Roana. The surrounding area also includes the peaks of Monte Cengio, Scoglio dell'Aquila, Monte Melignone and Monte Trentin, as well as Forte Belvedere. Further afield in the region are Castello di Thiene and the Giuseppe Denti Museum.
