Kurtatsch is situated on a sunny terrace at 333 m above the Adige Valley. The South Tyrolean Wine Road begins in the center of the historic wine village of Kurtatsch. The wine trail also begins in the village center and follows the wooden “Saltner Pratze” markers. Thus, in the village center, the Wine Road and the marked educational trail meet as two different ways of exploring the subject of wine.

During the weekly guided tours at the Kurtatsch winery, you can experience the TERROIR tour, take part in a guided tasting and discover the new “dolomite” barrel cellar. The wine experience therefore ranges from orientation along the trail to a guided tour with tasting.

Culture from the Museum to the Late Gothic Period

The Museum Of People Through Time® vividly presents people’s lives in different eras – from the Stone Age to modern times. The parish church of St. Vigilius was probably built in the 11th century; its church tower is thought to have been erected in the 14th century.

The Church of St. Vigilius also preserves a monstrance and a chalice from the Late Gothic period. The building history and the surviving objects each add different accents to the cultural experience.

Tours through Vineyards and Orchards

The Kurtatsch Farmstead Trail is a tour through the historic wine village, where QR codes on buildings explain local historical features. It passes historic residences and farmsteads as well as the vineyards above Kurtatsch; it then leads through the surrounding cultural landscape, with kitchen gardens and waterways, back to the village center.

The Kurtatsch–Tramin Apple Trail is an easy themed hiking trail through orchards from Kurtatsch to Tramin. It can be walked from Kurtatsch to Tramin or in the opposite direction.

Activity and Flexible Starting Points

For a sporty contrast, the Marderwand climbing area is located in Graun/Kurtatsch. It has 80 m² of climbing area and 36 routes ranging from 9 m to 21 m in length.

The Kurtatsch–Entiklar–Margreid–Kurtinig wine trail can be reached from the Neumarkt and Margreid railway stations. Regular bus connections toward the wine villages along the South Tyrolean Wine Road allow for a flexible starting point. This provides various options for planning the day without limiting the trail to a single access point.
