Salurn between history, forest trails and the Wine Route

Salurn is located along the South Tyrolean Wine Route and combines historic culture with woodland landscapes and a variety of routes for hiking and cycling tours. When choosing accommodation in Salurn, you can therefore organize your trip around several interests: architecture and local history, walks and hikes, or an arrival that can be planned by train and bicycle.

Historic traces in the town center

The present-day Church of St. Andrea dates from 1628–1640 and is one of the early examples of religious Renaissance architecture in the Province of Bolzano. The church also contains a Baroque high altar from 1646, created by the Zugna brothers.

The history of Haderburg Castle, Salurn Castle, is told at the Scoprire Museum. Finds from archaeological excavations in the „Doss della Forca“ area south of Salurn are also displayed there. The Scoprire Abenteuer Haderburg Museum has barrier-free access. In the historic center, an educational trail follows Via Trento and passes through the upper part of town to the historic façades of the old houses.

A special combination of the townscape and local traditions is offered by the traditional Torbogen Festival: it takes place every year at Pentecost in the village center of Salurn.

Hiking trails with different destinations

Mount Madrutta offers numerous hiking trails, some of which are also accessible with strollers. The Sentiero delle scalette leads from the „Cascata“ recreation area to a forest road and onward to the „al palon“ viewpoint.

Haderburg Castle can be reached on foot via a forest road known as the „Sentiero delle Visioni“. In summer, the castle is the venue for various events, including concerts, guided castle tours and themed evenings. Those seeking relaxation in addition to hiking will find a Kneipp facility in Cauria di Salorno, where various Kneipp techniques can be practiced. It has barrier-free access.

Forests, long-distance trails and the Dürer Trail

Above Salurn, mixed and coniferous forests surround the villages of Buchholz and Gfrill. Parts of these forests are incorporated into the Trudner Horn Nature Park. The area above Salurn is crossed by several hiking trails, including the European long-distance trail E5. A varied hike from Pochi/Buchholz to Lago Santo follows the historic Dürer Trail through the forests of Monte Corno Nature Park.

Arrival and orientation on site

On the valley floor, a cycle route runs along the Adige River to Trento and Bolzano. Regional trains to Bolzano, Trento and Verona stop at Salurn railway station. These rail connections and the cycle route provide concrete points of reference when you want to plan the location of your accommodation and the focus of your trip.
