Montan between nature park, vineyards and history

Montan lies on the edge of Trudner Horn Nature Park and is nestled among orchards and vineyards. This makes the village a destination where paths through the landscape can be combined with wine and cultural themes. Hiking trails with their own distinctive character

The Montan–Glen–Gschnon–Gsteig–Montan circular hike starts at the car park by the entrance to the village of Montan. It follows the “Vecchia Ferrovia” and the Glen Viaduct to the hamlet of Glen.

Another option is the panoramic tour along the Fleimstal railway line. It starts at the entrance to Montan and follows the “Vecia Ferrovia” through orchards and vineyards and across the Glen Viaduct to the hamlet of Glen. Alongside the circular hike, this places a second, independently designated tour featuring the railway line, vineyards and the viaduct at the centre. Both tours lead to Glen, but differ in their starting points: the circular hike begins at the village entrance, while the panoramic tour starts at the entrance to the town.

The Blauburgunderweg is a wine and cultural trail that can be explored from Montan and leads through the Pinot Noir vineyards of Glen and Pinzon. It complements the hiking trails with a thematic approach that considers viticulture and regional culture together.

Montan is also a popular starting point for numerous hikes and mountain bike tours. This means you can combine the village in your plans with both leisurely walks and mountain bike tours.

The hike “From the climatic health resort of Gschnon to Trudner Horn” starts at the lime kiln in Gschnon, a mountain hamlet above Montan, and leads to Trudner Horn.

Historic sites in Montan and Pinzon

Enn Castle is located above Montan and was built around 1300 at the request of the noble lords of Enn. It has been privately owned by the Albrizzi family since the 17th century and is not open to visitors. The annual castle concert held in mid-August is an exception. This access information is just as relevant to trip planning as the castle’s history.

In Pinzon, St. Stephen’s Church was built around 1200 in the Romanesque style and subsequently remodelled in the Gothic style. The church houses a Late Gothic winged altarpiece, probably created around 1485 by the Brixen master Hans Klocker. Alongside the paths through vineyards and landscapes, the building’s history and the altarpiece provide another cultural focus for your stay.
