Puos Dʼalpago between History and Nature

Puos d'Alpago preserves traces of its Roman history, evidenced by coin finds, while also recalling the area's water-powered workshops. In the 16th century, Puos d'Alpago became an important economic centre thanks to the numerous water-powered workshops present in the area. The economic importance of this period was tied to the use of water power and the number of workshops.

Chiesa di San Bartolomeo and Sagra

The Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo in Puos d'Alpago was founded in the 15th century. The main altar features an altarpiece painted in 1617 by Francesco Frigimelica il Vecchio. It depicts the Madonna and Child together with Saints Bartholomew and Nicholas.

The Sagra di San Bartolomeo also dates back to 1583 and is celebrated on 24 August. The fixed date provides clear timing within the annual calendar for individual travel planning. The festival date stands alongside the founding of the church and the altarpiece painted in 1617, without conflating their dates.

Trails for Nature Observation and Pilgrims

The signposted “Puos Natura” trail begins at the sports grounds in Puos. In the surroundings of Puos d'Alpago, it passes through a nature area with birdwatching spots. Along the trail, breaks for observation can be planned at the designated spots. The birdwatching spots give the route a nature-focused reference point for mindful breaks.

Another type of trail is the pilgrimage route in the surroundings of Puos d'Alpago. It runs for 13 km to Irrighe; afterwards, the pilgrims are welcomed in the church for Mass. The 13 km provide a specific distance for personal planning. The subsequent welcome in the church and the Mass give this route its religious focus. This religious connection clearly distinguishes it from the nature-focused emphasis of the “Puos Natura” trail.

Cycle Path to Farra d'Alpago

Puos d'Alpago is connected to Farra d'Alpago by a cycle path made of gravel and compacted earth. Those planning to follow this connection by bike can take the change between gravel and compacted earth into account when planning breaks. The surface is therefore practical information for personal route planning.

Historical Traces Around Valzella

A capital is located on the road near Valzella, to the left of the carriageway in the direction of Torch, and commemorates the cholera epidemic of 1836. The old church of S. Pietro a Valzella, dating from the 16th century, is also one of the local religious buildings. The indication that it is to the left of the carriageway in the direction of Torch is relevant for orientation along the road.
